Oils on stone tile fragment, 5 x 6 inches (12.75 x 16.5 cm),
This is one of three bull dancer paintings I have done of the same fresco. It was discovered by Arthur Evans in about 1917, Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum and owner of the Knossos site where the palace of Minos was found. When the earthquake occurred betwen 1627BC and 1600BC, the palace was utterly destroyed. The frescoes tragically became flakes of panels which after falling from an upper storey to the ground, remained uncovered for thousands of years until they were found near a disused stairwell.
